1 Black Sable EL34's for VTA ST-70 ? on Sun Oct 25, 2009 10:26 am

I have one of Bob's ST-70's that I built from a kit about two years ago. I use it a lot and I am thinking about a new set of EL34 output tubes for the amp. I heard about these new Svetlana Black Sable EL34's. I checked online at the Tube Depot and they are pretty expensive. Has anyone used them or know anything about them ? RockyAM

From what I have heard the SED Black Sable tubes are the standard Svetlana EL34's that have been cryogenically treated and put in a different box. I personally have never heard this version of this tube but I have the feeling that they won't sound that much different than the standard SED EL34's. My favorite tube for any ST-70 right now is the Genalex Gold Lion KT66's. At a lower price point, the JJ KT77's are very good also.
