1 replacing a 40k pot with a 50k pot on Sun Jul 12, 2009 1:16 pm

Its not tubes, but I have a pat-4 preamp with a bad treble pot. The owners/assembly manual says its a 40k pot, but alls I can find here locally is a 50k pot. Is there any problem with this, or would it be better just to put a resistor in place, alls I want to do is center it to be flat. but the pot is all screwed up and I can't get good contacts.
thanks

Hi Duder1982,

I do have here an extra Dynaco PAT-4 dual treble control which is the correct part for your PAT-4. It is marked "161403" which is the correct Dynaco part number for the PAT-4's treble control. You can have it for the cost of the postage. If you want it Email me at > Bob01605@aol.com.

Hey, Duder, welcome to the forum! Take up Bob on the offer. That "40K pot" in the PAT-4 is not just any ordinary pot, but a special one designed by Dynaco to take the treble tone control out of circuit when it's in the center position. Yes, there IS a way to modify a standard pot to work but this offer is too good to refuse!
