    Russian PIO K40Y-9 Vs K75-12

Post by ddanbo on Fri Dec 09, 2011 3:53 pm

    Greetings,

Just purchased some Russian PIO K-40Y-9 caps, 1000V .22uf from fleabay.
What actually arrived is physically stamped K75-12, an inquiry has recently been sent to the seller (who had great feedback BTW)with no response yet.
Would any members be able to shed some light?
Google searches has not provided any additioanal info, in fact there does not really seem to to be a model K75-12.
Physically they appear identical to the K40Y-9 with the siver can and sealed ends etc.
There is not exactly a lot invested here so no biggie, but would be interested in more info.

    Cheers,

    Hi,

The Russian K75-12 caps do look like the K40-Y's with that gray metal body. Whether they are the same inside I cannot say. Also, I have never heard the K75-12 caps so I cannot comment on their sound.

As an aside and two notes that some may be interested in ... The Russian Teflon caps are very good sounding caps BUT they are very large for their voltage rating and will not fit into many applications. On the VTA driver board they are just too large to fit into the area where the main coupling caps go. I have heard the Russian K42 caps. They are a later series than the K40's, physically somewhat smaller than the K40-Y's and IMHO they don't have the smooth and spacious sound like the K40's do.

    Thanks Bob,
    Update from the vendor:
"K75-12 is really similar to K40Y-9"
I guess one could always give them a try and see....

These caps are usually best used in the power supply. The best Russian cap is the k75-10 fantastic sonics great highs it's a hybrid (pio/polyester) I'm currently using these in my stereo 70. They are quite large and do take a liitle work to fit them on the board. santa
