General tube amp question Empty General tube amp question

Post by wildiowa Thu May 17, 2012 6:18 pm

In addition to my Dynas I have a couple other old tube amps I am trying to rehabilitate and recycle in some way. One is an old Gulbransen organ amp, with 2 6L6's mono...now have it recapped and ready to go. If I incorporate this into a guitar amp can the chassis be mounted upside down, that is, tubes "down" as opposed to tubes "up" as I know it was installed in the organ. The Fenders and some other amps always were constructed with their tubes aimed down, while others are designed to be upright....I know cooling, tube clamps and some minor issues may develop but is there any fundamental reason this can't be done? From a design and construction aspect it would be best to turn it over 180 degrees. Not exactly a Dyna question, but with all you experts out there....please advise. thanks. IA
