My wife likes stop in now and then to a Salvation Army store in a nearby town to look at inexpensive figurines, pictures etc. I go along with her because they do have a nice selection of inexpensive books. The also have a joke of an "electronics area" with stacks of VCR's, beat up CD players, black and white TV's and now and then a pair of mass market Chinese speakers. So we walk in and my wife goes to check out her figurines, pictures etc. and I head to the electronics area. I see the rear of a pair of black bookshelf speakers and I am shocked to see DUAL woofer and tweeter inputs on each speaker. I race to look at the front of the speakers and am SHOCKED to see a "KEF" badge on each speaker. The speakers have some marks on them but the grille cloths are not torn. More careful examination reveals that these are KEF C-45 speakers. I pull off each grille cloth and find that these are acoustic suspension speakers (no port) and the drivers are in fine shape. I check the price and there is a $7.99 price on each speaker. More careful examination reveals that these speakers are $7.99 FOR THE PAIR! I grab one (they weigh about 30 pounds each) and walk the length of the store and place it in my wife's shopping cart. I race back, grab the second one, and put that in the cart also. While I am talking to my wife a guy walks by and slows down as he walks by our cart. Chris tells me after he passes by that he was "really eyeing the speakers". I leave my wife, push the cart to the registers, pay for the speakers and bring them out to my car and lock them in the trunk (speaker back side down).

When I get home I check online and find that the KEF C-45's were from the early '90's and retailed for $340 for the pair. So I guess I got a good deal? I hook them up to one of the systems I have here and they play great - no issues ... Photos below ..

So ... Have you at sometime over the years run into a great audio deal ?

    Bob
