Wanted Transistor for a Dynaco PAT-5 preamp Empty Wanted Transistor for a Dynaco PAT-5 preamp

I am fixing a Dynaco PAT-5 solid state preamp for a friend that had a few issues, one of them a bad transistor, with a odd number "SE4020".

I did the usual searches and found its "equivalent" replacement as a NTE161 transistor. The NTE161 is a metal transistor where as the original is plastic, not that it matters. I just purchased one on ebay but does anyone have a SE4020 transistor or know of any other substitution. I don't have to much faith with the NTE sub.

    Thanks,
    Sal

PS: I also posted this on the antiqueradios.com forum.

A quick search turned up this:

I also have an Old Radio Shack crossover guide at home somewhere. If I can remember, I'll try to look it up this weekend and see if it has any info.

This place shows them too, $25 minimum order, you'd have to order 15 or so:

Also, here is a cross reference link:

According to my Archer 1992 edition Semiconductor Reference Guide (Radio Shack catalog number 276-4015), the Radio Shack Part Numbers are:

    SE-4020 276-2030
    SE4020 276-2016
    SE4020/6-04 276-2016

    Radio Shack 276-2016

    http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062609

Oddly this shows up as a 2N3904 which crosses to a 276-2009 in my guide (which Radio Shack also still carries as MPS2222A). Spotty reviews of the 276-2016 on the website. But you might can buy it local for a few bucks and try it. Lots of crazy crossover here.

Radio Shack 276-2030 is no longer a Radio Shack number based on a search of their webpage.

Hope this helps, but based on my research, it's a mess.

Thank you for the cross reference's. I'll keep you posted. I have plenty of general purpose transistors I may try if the one I purchased from ebay does not work to my satisfaction.

    Regards,
    Sal
