    Hello all:

who has experience with an ST-70 with folded horn designs utilizing either Fostex or Lowther Full range Drive Units? I am in process of building a Madisound BK-12 using a Fostrex 4.5" FR driver to used with my ST-70 or possibly my restored Heathkit AA-32. Comments are appreciated!

I used the ST-70 with Hornshoppe Horns. It was like shooting the proverbial "fish in a barrel" for the ST-70. Excellent dynamics, soundstage and tonal qualities.

    I used a set of Madisound's BK16s for a while with a ST70. Nice.

I have also used the ST70 with the Fostex FE206 in a 1.5 box and the Tang Band WB-1772 in a 3.0 bass reflex box. Nice also.

The St70 also has worked well for me in a 5.0 box with an Audio Nirvana 12" NEO driver.

Lastly I have pair it up with vintage coaxial type drivers such as Utah, Electrovoice and University.
These can handle all the power of an ST70 but do need a simple crossover usually consisting of one capacitor and a variable resistor to dial in the tweeter.

I'm using a larger double mouthed horn that uses the same fostex 126 enabled driver. I expect results with the BK12 would be similar.

I'm a big fan of cross-over-less speakers. I expect you will find that speaker to sound lovely. Natural, quick-responding, dynamically responsive to the music.

I've often read that horn speakers and tube amps are a Heavenly match for one another.

Well, the initial trial with the BK-12's sounded very nice. Need to break these in I was told (10 hours at moderate levels) but in comparison to the Paradigm studio 10's the Fostex are VERY efficient! I am now venturing into making an 8" folded horn kit with possibly Lowther PM5 drivers. Not sure on the configuration yet but looks like a Fidelio cabinet may be the ticket. Anyone out there have an opinion?
BOB -- this may require another ST-70 kit!!! Also, Axpona show is here the end of the month so I can talk to Lowther directly and also listen to several hi-end components.

    Comments appreciated!!
