    Who sells low voltage caps?

Post by guentherj2 on Tue Apr 08, 2014 5:55 pm

    Greetings.

I'm looking for caps for my old Fisher XP66 speaker crossovers. Does anyone know who sells 25V caps ranging from 12 to 100 uf?

    Thanks

I recommend ERSE caps. It's ok if the voltage ratings are bigger. In speaker crossovers stick to film caps. No electrolytic caps as they will not sound as good.

Not LOW voltage, not Dueland PIO Copper/Silver/Gold/Platinum/Kryptonite foil, but 100uF! http://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-dmpc-100-100uf-250v-polypropylene-capacitor--027-447

Part Express has more values besides that one, too.  I've also seen air conditioner "motor-run" caps used in that application - they're often polypropylene and up to 80 or so microfarads.

    Just some ideas.  affraid

Various values and voltages to choose from here: http://www.partsconnexion.com/capacitor_film_mundorf_mkp.html

I noticed my conrad johnson PV7 is populated with this type of cap as I was inspecting the innards just now so I looked them up.
They do have a 100uF 400V job as well.

I finally bit the bullet on the Erse Pulse X metallized polypropylene for my McIntosh XR16's ...

Might have to enlarge the cabinets to fit all them rascals in. Fortunately, the XR16 boards are quite large and I should be able to stack them vertically, more or less in the original positions. I DO plan to add some additional support though, as we're talking quite a bit more weight once the transplant is done.

PS ... the "C" battery is just as a point of reference. The white caps are the same value as the biggest ones, only they're metallized polyester.
