Woody M-125s

At the risk of setting a house fire, has anybody messed about with building a woody chassis for the m-125s?

I haven't yet but I am thinking about it  this summer .   Something that will match the SP14 I just built .
 I'm planning on bi-amping my new ( to me ) speakers and if my ST120 will not run the highs I'm going to build the M125's.
Or maybe just make a cover like I did on the ST120.

The M-125s will not disappoint.

Not to forget, unlike a straight bottle like those used on the pre, the KT tube shape also radiates some heat down, so I'd think it'd be even more of an issue with an amp, even if you keep the sockets proud of the top.

Forgive me for being too lazy to find it here (wish they had a search engine) you had some tube-lifters? Could you zap a link?

Seems my source has dried up with the old bakelite risers.

Do a search for "tube socket savers" ... lotsa hits on that auction site ...

I'd send you some, but mine are all in use ...

Instead of the GZ37, I could get a LOT more light out of a Chinese 5AR4 ... put that nuclear glow to work!

We'll have a race to see who burns down first, me with the paper shade, or deepee with a wooden chassis ...

My money's on the lamp shade. Iron bark doesn't burn, it just sinks.

Thanks .     Ya , With the big KT120's and big rectifier in them there would be alot more heat . I wouldn't even consider a wood top for the M125's !
 I was thinking of doing like the SP14 and making a brass top and I was thinking of hiding the circuit board and quad cap inside the case  like SkiZo's and moveing the small tube sockets off the board to the top.
Or to just use the top of the stainless M125 housing and  screwing it to  a wooden case .
Or just doing like my ST120 . Build the amps normally and make a wooden case and the amp just slides down in the wood case .



Deepee , I have 5 octal  socket savers I'll give you a deal on if you want them .  I don't need them now .

Yeah, I wasn't thinking of a wood tube cage. Our fire department is pretty drunk and slow most good days. Their motto is: We saved the lot. There;s a wood-butchering shop over in Spokane about 90 miles away, maybe I'll take an M-125 in there and see what they can do with it.

Mirroring the layout was a real nice touch.

If you decide to hide the board, I used threaded spacers from the local hardware.



You can always adjust the length of those to suit. Also, all the large caps are mounted on the "wrong" side of the board. The VTA board has double sided pads which makes that easy.

I am guessing this is what you mean by woody. No scorching or smoke yet. I do know were the fire extinguisher is at all times however.
