Audio Mavericks D2 DAC question Empty Audio Mavericks D2 DAC question

I can't remember which member here also uses these, perhaps you can help me here, thanks.
Received my unit the other day. I have an iPod, plugging it into the D2 and I get no music coming through my SP9/ST70. I have the 'Standard' output of the D2 plugged into the AUX input of my SP9, all I get, at high volume, is some hum.
I tried the Optical input, from our LCD TV, that works fine, so I know the SP9 is good.
I thought one cold plug an iPod into the D2 which should work.

I figured it out, have to use the iTouch, classics will not plug in directly.

iDunno iPod from iTouch, so don't ask me ...  drunken

Good to hear you figured it out. Seems like the iPod would require an analog jack to work properly and the D2 went pure digital. The D1+ has the analog inputs, both headphones and RCA. That's the one I went with as I plug my turntable into the DAC via an external stage.

iActually have both the D1 and D1+ here. iMHO both outstanding DACs. iPrefer the USB output to the optical here and the D1+ has been a major iMprovement with the addition of the Tenor chipset. iBelieve the D2 uses the same USB interface but made major changes to the TosLink side.

Be sure and post up your thoughts on SQ after you've had a chance to play with it a bit. iThink it's one of the better bargains out there and performs well above it's price point.

PS ... hope you got the GE tube upgrade ... runs rings around the stock Chinese unit. If not, I can provide a list of available options for rolling. Right now I'm running a Tesla 6CC42 ... pricey, but hey, I'm worth it.  Cool

iAssUme the OPA627 op amp upgrade also makes a difference - I've got both those and the original DACs here, and the OPA627s really open it up. They did change the Dacs in the D2, so can't really comment on what the upgrade would do for you.

iDunno how long there will even be a headphone jack on iDevices. Apple issued specifications for a new iInterface that will eliminate the 1/8" three-circuit stereo headphone jack and replace it with a hookup to the multifunction plug instead. Apple also has bought headphone manufacturer Beats, and with control over both ends of the interface could monopolize the iHeadphone market at least until the Chinese figure out a workaround, which they always do.

The iPod and iPod touch don't output digital through their headphone jack, obviously.

And you'd need a Wadia dock to get at its digital data.  Apple doesn't provide for any other means to get at this.

Your iPod touch has wireless capability, so try this:

-Download Apple's Remote app (free) - one of the best music interfaces available.

-Buy an Apple Airport Express for $99 and, using its optical out via toslink to your dac, stream from your iPod touch to the Airport Express.

All bit perfect at 16/44, very convenient and fun to control your system wirelessly.

The Pure I-20 does a descent job of extracting digital and bypassing Apple's DAC chip. You would need to reference Pure's website to verify what version iTouch is supported. It's DAC chip is not bad and it also allows you to by-pass its chip and used as a pure transport to an external DAC player.

With the recent release or soon to be released (not much of an Apple guy) iOS8, the digital extraction will be possible through the Lightning connector. Just a matter of time 3rd party dock stations, cable, etc. will be available for digital extraction.

I have the i20 dock and it works great. Well, depending on which device and iOS you're using.

My original iPad which still uses iOS 5 works perfectly. My iOS 7 devices will play but the i20 remote doesn't work. It just outputs a fixed signal.

I hope they release an updated version. The i20 was well worth the $99 I paid.
