VTA amplifier gain Empty VTA amplifier gain

Post by audiobill Wed Aug 20, 2014 6:15 am

I'm currently enjoying my M-125's very much through my Dynaudio Gemini speakers, and am thinking about biamping.

I use my M-125's in triode mode with two (rather than four) output tubes running.

I could go with another pair of M-125s, of course, or look at the VTA-120 or VTA-70 for biamping the tweeters.

    Questions -

Are the gain structures of these choices identical?

Can either be run in triode mode, like my M-125s?

    Can the VTA-120 run KT-120s?

I know some of the answers are in the specs, but wanted to get them all in one place.

    Many thanks,

    Bill

    Hi Bill,

    1. The gain structure of the VTA M-125's and the ST-120 is virtually identical (about 1 to 1.1 volt IN for the rated output OUT)

    2. BOTH the VTA M-125 and the VTA ST-120 may be run in triode mode

    3. BOTH the VTA M-125 and the VTA ST-120 may use the Tung-Sol KT120 output tubes

    Thanks, Bob.

I guess the M125 may be overkill for driving the tweeters, especially since I'm running them with two tubes each. Four of them would look cool, though. Wink

One other question...what are the ST 120 chassis dimensions?

    Thanks,

    Thanks,

    Bill,

The VTA ST-120 chassis is 13 inches wide by 9 1/2 inches deep. The output binding posts add another inch to the overall depth of the amp - SO - 10 1/2 inches overall depth of the amp if you add the binding post depth to the depth of the chassis itself.
