Hi I am new to this forum and hope I am not intruding. I was referred by Kevin from Dynakit parts. He was nice enough to suggest I look here for help.

I am not a tech so I can’t really contribute much which is why I don’t want to feel like I am imposing.

Having health issues and disabled for many years now I have been without my stereo for over 15 years due to living arrangements and just not being well. Now I am able to have a system but I need some help. I won’t go into all the long details but what I need is some direction. I have an older ST 70 which is original (from what I have learned reading) and have only recently had the first chance to hear it for a brief time. I got it many years ago but never had a chance to try it. I cleaned it up and think it’s in decent shape appearance wise. After reading up on it I have found it should be serviced / updated. It runs quiet and doesn’t seem to have any major problems but there are a couple issues which I will not go into now. I did get some tubes a while back (2006) when I thought I would be able to hook it up but wound up that I couldn’t. (I broke an output tube so I got new Svetlana SED EL34s recommended by someone). So for the amp I am thinking staying original for the most part, no mods.

I don’t even know what it’s supposed to sound like but the little I heard I liked. I discovered tubes long ago and had been using a tube preamp for many years, but this is my first tube amp. And after reading about what should be done I am not going to use it until it gets serviced. Being on disability I really don’t have extra money so I wish I knew enough to do it myself but I need it serviced and checked out by someone who has the knowledge so I know its right and then will know what I actually have.

Can someone recommend a reliable, trustworthy person / place to service my amp and what I should be looking to have done? I am in the mid west and would ship the amp out. I could purchase the parts (as recommended) and ship the amp out then would pay for the labor.

Sorry to have gone on so long. Thank you for taking the time to read this and any response would be really appreciated. I have been waiting a long time to hear a stereo again. Oh I am not a big time audiophile knowledge wise; I just love music and my stereo. Now I am looking forward to hearing my ST 70 which would be part of a nice vintage tube system.

    Hi Rick,

Since you are in IL near Chicago, get in touch with Dynaco amp/preamp technician Troy Madden at > tmadden12@hur.midco.net  Troy is only a couple of states over from you in South Dakota. If you were on the east coast, I would recommend Sal Brisindi in New Jersey to get in touch with at > salb203@aol.com

Troy and Sal are two of the best Dynaco tube amp and preamp techs in the country. If anyone needs a Dynaco amp or preamp repaired, restored or rebuilt, I would recommend highly that you get in touch with either Troy or Sal. Both techs are trustworthy, reliable and very fair in their pricing structure for repair work.

    Welcome to the forum Rick.

You're sure to find it a wealth of information, as well as a friendly place to hang out.

What are you using for a pre amp with that st 70 of yours?

Hi Well I am going to be using my trusted old Harman Kardon Citation I. Needs a good set of tubes but will worry about that after I get my 70 serviced which I was able to ship off today.
