    FleaBay prices gone nuts Empty FleaBay prices gone nuts

    I was just looking at Dynaco prices on Ebay and it seems inflation has hit and raised Dynaco prices substantially in the last 3-4 months.
    Only a few a few months ago FM-3 tuners were under $100 and other parts and amps MKIII trannie's and amps were holding steady with prices we have seen for quite a while. I checked Ebay today and prices for many of these items are over the top. What the hell happened?

    Not just the Dynaco stuff ... anything "classic" is inflating rapidly. Lot of us newly anointed boomers looking for projects to kill time I suppose.

    Good example. Picked up a real deal on a Sansui QRX 6001 maybe a year ago to keep me happy till I finished rebuilding my QRX 9001. Less than $100, INCLUDING S&H - and it's a heavy receiver. I see one on that auction site right now, listed for parts or repair, going for a couple hundred as we speak. Only one listed too, and wasn't that long ago you could depend on several hits when searching. Cleaned the controls on mine and fixed a couple flickers in the dial lamps, and good to go. Beautiful cosmetically. Same quad circuits as it's big brother, and I run outboard amps as well, so no big push to finish up on the 9001.

    (Although after a year or so, I can finally say it's about done and ready to put back into the main system ... where's my dancing banana??)  ;-}

    Same thing with the Sansui "db" receivers. You could get a decent one for a couple hundred if you were patient a year or two ago, now you can't touch one for less that $600 ... mine cost a whole $40 locally - butt ugly case, beat to beyond bad, but the faceplate is clean, and once again ... it works!

    I hereby pledge not to drive prices up any further. For now anyway - my workbench runneth over ...  rabbit

    These Ebay prices are somewhat seasonal .. In the winter time people are looking for an indoor project and vintage tube gear pricing is higher ... In June, July, and August prices decline somewhat .. But baddog you are correct .. The general trend in the pricing of vintage tube gear has continued to rise in the past few years ..

    FleaBay prices gone nuts Empty prices soaring

    certain prices are soaring . the prices of fisher integrated amplifiers are up drastically. one could be had for a few hundred bucks but now they are now for the most part triple in price . a dynaco sca-35 can still be had for 3 to 4 hundred . the transformers alone are worth 200 dollars .

    It's not just equipment but quality NOS tubes as well. Hard to tell if it's a dwindling supply against a fixed demand, or if demand itself is on the rise against a fixed supply. My guess is a bit of both. These are tiny markets in the grand scheme of things, so the slightest jerk either direction can have an uncommonly large impact on price. Ask anyone who trades in precious metals -- also tiny markets . . .
    The resurgence in vinyl, while interesting, doesn't take a flea-bite out of the FLAC/streaming/CD/Blu-Ray music source market. But add a few thousand new vinyl freaks, maybe they decide to go looking for tube equipment to complete the experience.
    It would be interesting to know (does anyone?) what Dynaco's total production of tube preamps and amps, both kit and assembled, was. Ditto for H-K and Heath. Somebody must know.
