'Special' input on Dyna Pas3 preamp Empty 'Special' input on Dyna Pas3 preamp

    Post by hrudu90 Tue May 19, 2015 12:08 pm

I am wondering what is the 'special' input on the Dyna Pas3 is for?
Can I use it as an "AUX' input?
    Thanks

"SPECIAL" is a flat, unequalized input to the PHONO stage, intended for moving-coil microphones.  You could use it as a line input with proper padding-down of the signal to about 10% of its original level, otherwise the stage will overload.  However this will result in higher noise than into a proper line input, due to the gain of the phono stage even without equalization.  So that is not a good idea.

"SPARE" is the extra line-level input.

You don't have to, if you have the original Dynaco selector switch. There are instructions in the Dynaco PAS manual on how to do just that, feeding either phono source to the PAS phono stage. For that matter the PAS phono board can be reconfigured to put all the RIAA equalization parts on the board, and the selector switch rewired to provide THREE phono inputs (the original Phono, Tape Head and Special selections).
