With the TDR installed you could actually use either the Weber WS1 or the WZ68 in your amp. I do not think you would hear any difference in the sound of your amp with either installed. The WS1 would probably give a higher B+ voltage which would require a slight bias adjustment.

Ditto to Bob. Bias will change dramatically from tube, somewhat from WZ68 to WS1. Always a good idea to lower bias to minimum before you install any new rectifier. I've used both in my ST-120 and prefer the WS1 because it will run considerably cooler due to lack of sag resistors.

... or swap ANY tubes for that matter ... always a good idea to check. My KT120's are a LONG way from where I set the pots for most any KT88 ...

AND DON'T FORGET TO RETENSION THEM SOCKETS !!

(There ... I feel better now)

Amazing thing about the current concern about which copper cap to use is, nothing's changed except the wording on the website, probably the result of some little litigator saying ... just saying, as they say. The WZ68 has apparently done yeoman duty on audio amps for years.

I supposed technically, the correct question for our amps would be, WZ34 or WS1? And is the WS1 considered a qualified replacement for a 5AR4 according to Weber?

(The devil made me say that.)

    * Be interesting to hear any A/B comparisons as to whether the sag built into the WZ series makes any difference in SQ on our amps?

The Weber rep actually suggested the WS1 to me when my WZ68 melted down.
A real A/B comparison is difficult because of the need to rebias and warm up. But unscientifically, I find the sound with the WS1 to be perhaps even more solid and in-your-face than the WZ68. Maybe to a fault. I still like the old Mullard GZ37 best of all. But I think, all things considered, Bob L. is correct when he says you probably won't perceive any dramatic SQ discrepancies between any choice for rectifier - until you push the amp to its limit. Or have an uncommonly difficult speaker load. It seems to be generally acknowleged that the rectifier can be the weakest link in the VTA amps under demanding conditions. Which the majority of us Dyna kids is too smart to subject our precious equipment to. Cool

I suppose there's something to be said about the WS1 more than doubling current capacity over the WZ68.

Which leads to the question ... what the heck are yall doing out there? I never had any issues with my WX68, and I push my system hard ... deep and hard!

Then again, I didn't run the thing that long ... discovered the GZ37 bottle, and there's not going back. I still have the WZ68 for backup (as well as another GZ37) ...

    * I do know that having a CL80 thermistor in line on the AC wall current drops the voltage some as they never go fully open.

Maybe that gives me an extra pad to work with. B+ tests out on the low side of recommended range, but it still sounds mighty fine.

I've been using the WZ68 in my ST-120 about 500 plus hours no issues what so ever.
