Anyone have or know where to get the original Dynaco Vintage Carbon Resistors

Post by bubbasweet on Thu Jul 21, 2016 12:41 am

I am looking to restore my original circuit boards for my Mk3s with those brown resistors and need 12 resistors. 1W and 1/2 Watt. Anyone know where you can buy the ones you need? Happy to pay. What brand were they? I just like the look of them and want to restore.

    Need Values.

    4 x 47K 1W
    2 x 4.7k 1/2 W
    2 x 1K 1W
    4 100K 1/2 W

    THX

    Dynakitparts has what you need:

    Carbon Comp resistors

They will put you back $2.50 each, or $30 total, plus shipping. Metal-film are only $.50 each.

You may want to contact Kevin first, before you buy.

Are the original resistors there?  Why not measure them and see if they are still in-spec?  Here's something that might help: desolder them as quickly as possible, applying as little soldering iron heat as possible.  Then, follow a bake-out procedure, after which you can check their values to see if they are in-spec.

    Bake-out procedure described here: http://www.hificollective.co.uk/components/allen_bradley_resistors.html

No they were replaced with new. I just want to restore. 30 bucks is not mcuh so I will likely do it. THX Allen Bradley I think was the brand of these resistors...

FYI, I got the Allen Bradley Resistors at apexjr.com for about 75 - 1.50 each.. So I bought more than I was going to get. Good Resource. I will put my Mk3 circuitboard back to the original look.

I got these and replaced now. All are original. Fun project which means nothing about how the amp runs but it is neat to put stock resistors back in it for restoration purposes.. Apex was nice to deal with and quick delivery. They have exact resistors the Dynacos used if that is of interest to anyone here.

Absolutely gorgeous, Mr. Sweet. Like going back fifty years, only better. My hats are off yet again.

Thanx. It was a pretty good set to begin with. I can't take much credit other than going through them as a tech and making sure everything is right voltage wise etc. Replaceing the 100k and 1K and 47Ks on both boards as someone put those ugly greyish resistors on there. Which might function great but looked bad. I also replaced the giant orange drops with these as I felt the Orange was distracting from the over all look. I am sure there are better caps out there than the solens but for now they are fine. I also made some rubber gaskets using gasket rubber for the power trannies. Also I find with Dynacos like my ST70 if you put dense foam or soft rubber feet under each leg of the bottom of the amp, you hear nothing from the power trannies vibrating but I am really picky. The challenge with these is they weigh 30 pounds each and soft foam packs down, especially on the side of the power transformer. Thx for the comments.
