I was driving out on errands this morning, and passed by a yard sale in Chestnut Hill, Philadelphia, PA.
$40 later, I loaded (all Dynaco):
ST 120
ST 80
FM 3
ST 70 into the back of the car.
Of the four, the 80 and 120 work fine, draw the correct amount of current, and are hum-free. No rust, but not exactly pristine, either. They are going to get recapped on general principle.
The 70 has five good tubes (all of US origin) but has definitely forgotten all the words and can only hum. Pulled about 200 watts before I cut it off. Had a 5A fuse in it.
The FM 3 desperately needed an alignment, and had a low hum. But very clean.
I have redone the filter caps and did a basic alignment on the FM 3, now it has no hum and is reasonably sensitive and with good separation.
I will work on the 70 tomorrow, after chores. It is also a bit rusty, but nothing that cannot be treated, nor can I argue with the price.
I did state to the seller that his prices were insanely low, and was he sure (I paid "sticker")? Whereupon he stated that these were his rejects and just wanted them out of the house and did not want to deal with eBay. Rejects. OK. No problem! I asked after other 'rejects' and he stated that I should have come by earlier. Ah, well!
