    Pilot SP-264 Empty Pilot SP-264

Post by Mandopicker Wed Jun 21, 2017 8:06 pm

Good evening all. Digging through my inventory of power amps needing love and attention last weekend and I decided it was time to replace the filter caps on my Pilot 264 (Tube compliment: 4 x 12ax7, 4 x 7591's.)

Previously been restoring several ST-70's so the change up has been pretty fun. (The Pilot is not nearly as user friendly as it has several adjustments: DC, AC Balance, and Bias for each side.) The work is basically done and it sounds really nice.

Although having the service doc's is cool, I sure would love to know if any ya'll had any experience with one and can share any knowledge about the model. Seems as though the web has very little.

Got to go inside again this weekend, so I will take a few snap shots for the discussion (Should there be any).

    Thanks in advance.

    Best,

Finally had some time to take a few images of the Pilot 264.

You can see how I replaced the Filter Caps and Bias Supply.  All easily removed and returned to stock should someone find the appropriate Cap Cans down the road.

I have designed the complete board that contains all resistors and capacitors to fit what you see, but I decided to run it for a while to make sure all is well.

Sounds nice and the bias is stable.

    Enjoy.

No specific experience with that model, but Pilot equipment is generally one of those surprisingly good 'sleepers' out there. I have experienced several of their devices, all with positive results. Sadly, none of them were mine - just seen in passing.

Thank you for your comments. I do agree based on my study of this particular unit.

    Best,
