I've had my ST-120 (beautifully built by audiobill) for about a month... already ordered an SP-13 preamp built by Roy (with Mundorf silver-oil PIO caps and Khozmo 64 step remote control volume) which I don't even have and I've been eyeing ordering a PH-16 all week!

Yep. I recently picked up a used pair of M125 amps. I'm working on rebuilding them with a different look / layout.

And, if questioned by the SO, just tell them that it doesn't eat, keeps you close to home, and is cheaper than another woman.

Yeah, right. Then explain those two walls of shelving with tubes on them!Peter W. wrote:slate1 wrote:I've had my ST-120 (beautifully built by audiobill) for about a month... already ordered an SP-13 preamp built by Roy (with Mundorf silver-oil PIO caps and Khozmo 64 step remote control volume) which I don't even have and I've been eyeing ordering a PH-16 all week!

I have a deal with the UPS guy; he delivers late at night from his route back from Montana, no smuggling here. Quiet thump on the doorstep and all's well.

All kinds of tubing, but no tubes ... ;-}
The great thing was firing it up after all that time and just having to make slight adjustments on bias after it had warmed up ...

sKiZo,
Glad to hear that you have recovered from your accident ..
Re: Bias adjustments - The bias will go up and down as your line voltage goes up and down. If your line voltage is 120.0 VAC one day and the next day it is 119.5 VAC, the bias voltage will drop slightly on all the output tubes. Some VTA amp users get worried when the bias fluctuates slightly. Some places in the USA have pretty steady line voltages. Other places do not. The key here is that ALL output tubes will go down when the line voltage goes down. You should not worry about this as this is normal. If, however, ONE TUBE has a serious change in bias while the others stay pretty much the same, then that is usually an indication that there is a problem with either that tube or that tube socket.
