    Metered Variac

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/GENERAL-RADIO-W10MT3A-10-AMP-METERED-VARIAC-AUTO-TRANSFORMER-/282632464259?hash=item41ce352783:g:TCMAAOSwcRNZqBv9

This is not my device and I have no interest in it. However, it has an AC ammeter, a volt meter, and combined with an isolation transformer, it could be a very useful bench tool for those wishing to go the extra step when testing tube equipment. Made by General Radio - and so an actual Variac.

    Then, there is this:

Of which I keep two - and with the huge meters, there are few more useful basic diagnostic tools out there. I will opine that the price is far too high, however. The guts are General Radio and Stancor FWIW.

And, while we are at it:

For those who do a onesie/twosie, this equipment may be overkill. But, for those who may be a  bit more serious - this sort of  equipment is basic life-safety.
