    Hello

I have been reading the forum for a while now and I have a question. I recently picked up a PAS 3 (cheaply) and plan on upgrading it. I would only like to upgrade the line amp and power supply portion. I don't have any use for the phono amp and was thinking about removing it completely. It appears to me that there shouldn't be a problem doing this but I thought I would ask to see if anyone else had done this. I am considering the PAS 3 upgrade from VTA for the line amp and power supply.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Hi Chris,

You can upgrade just the line stage board (the one behind the tone controls) and just the power supply with two of the three boards from the VTA board set for the PAs-3. I wouldn't remove the phono board because you will devalue the preamp if you do. Sometimes audiophiles work on their gear with the idea that they will own that piece of gear forever. You should always think ahead a little to the possibility that you may wish to sell the preamp someday. In that regard, I would install ALL THREE of the VTA PAS-3 boards in your PAS-3. By having all new boards in there you will have increased the value of your preamp. You may also want to play some vinyl in the future even though that idea doesn't seem possible right now ...
