We are approaching our 10th anniversary as a forum

Post by Bob Latino on Mon Sep 17, 2018 8:49 pm

We have been a forum since November of 2008 and are fast approaching our 10th anniversary (on November 26th 2018). We have about 3000 members and average about 11 - 12 posts a day. I started this forum with the help of Roy Mottram of Tubes4hifi and Kevin Devaney of Dynakitparts. The story behind the creation of this forum goes like this > We pooled all the Dynaco tube assembly manuals we had and Roy then made a page on his web site with links to our 16 Dynaco tube manuals in early November of 2008. I then posted a link on "that other Dynaco forum" that these 16 manuals were now available for a free download on a Tubes4hifi web page. My post disappeared after one day ! I Emailed the owner of the forum for an explanation but never got an answer ? Since that forum owner also sold Dynaco tube parts and upgrades, he probably did not like the fact that the link I posted went to a web site of a "competitor" of his (Tubes4hifi). I then started the Dynaco Tube Audio Forum. We have now become the go to forum for information on Dynaco tube gear and the other forum is now all but abandoned with very few posts. The owner himself has not posted on his own forum in over 3 years. Thanks to all of you for your support in making this forum a success. Forum statistics for the last year below ... Bob

I lurk here on a daily basis as I have my morning coffee. My ST-120, SP14 and PH16 all function flawlessly. Following the threads here is an education that can only be had in a collective environment such as this forum. Thanx to all the gurus who are so willing to share their priceless knowledge and wisdom.

I found this forum after I bought a ST-70 and PAS3, both devices worked well and never any problems with them. After a year or so hanging around I purchase a pair of M125s from BOB and assembled them. The build brought me back to my electronic days from the early 70s. Been enjoying the amps for almost 4 years trouble free.
I'm thinking on a winter build of a SET amp, something to keep me off the streets, if anyone who reads this has built a SET from a DIY place kindly let me know. I have a build in mind but always open for as much information as I can get.

This is a great forum! I have to admit that I am not an owner of a post-Dynaco clone or reproduction, but I do very much enjoy the discussions - and the knowledge exchange around past and present examples.

Congrats to Bob, Roy and Kevin and members on the 10 year mark.  The great thing about this forum is that you don't have to wade through a bunch of garbage to get to the info you are looking for.   Clear, concise, relevant posts served with a side of humor.

Bob and the gang, congratulations on 10 years! I think I speak for a lot of users who read but refrain from posting when I say that the community that you folks have created is not only friendly, but also has allowed many of us to achieve our goals of either building, rebuilding, or tinkering with this amplifier. It's crazy to think I was snooping on this forum 8 years ago but only became a member this month. With that being said, I'm proud to represent 4% of the September content as of your post!

    Bob, Roy, and Kevin-

Thanks for all the great hifi knowledge, the smell of rosin core solder, and getting me to listen to albums one side at a time again.

    All the best,

Congratulations, Bob. Nice job. Mileages vary greatly here, of course. I, for example, haven't a clue about what "VTA ST-70, SP 14 and PH 14" are Wink

I intended to replace my 29 year old solid state amp thanks to a job change and raise. I was strongly considering dropping $2500 on either a Rogue or Primaluna integrated amp. While researching I found a youtube video of a guy building a VTA amp.

    VTA?

A bunch more searching and reading and it seems ANYBODY who has heard one of the VTA amps is a convert. Once I read about people choosing a VTA 120 over their McIntosh amp I knew I had to try it. Figured it must be pretty good; at least as good as the brands mentioned above and half the price.

I just finished my amp tonight.
It has been powered on playing music roughly 30 minutes. I cannot turn it up until tomorrow.

Anyway, that is how I got here and happy I did.
