ST35 cap and resistor roles Empty ST35 cap and resistor roles

Post by Guest Wed Jul 14, 2010 10:05 am

I was wondering if someone could tell me (or anyone else that is interested) what role each resistor and cap has in a Dynaco ST35 amp. For example C4 and C5 are coupling caps but it would be great to know what the purpose of each part is. Or maybe there's a manual out there somewhere that has this information. I realize that this may take some time but any help in this query would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

Understanding the basics of a tube amp, will give you the answer on most of the elements in the Dynaco amp.

A couple of links to start out with:

Thanks for the reading material. I was a lazy student when in school and still am so I need answers with the least amount of effort! This would help facilitate my understanding of vacuum tube technology if I knew the function of the elements involved. Yes, I have a basic understanding but by no means do I pretend to fully understand electronics 101. Smile

    You are welcome Wink

There is a thread on audiokarma.org about the Dynaco ST35 callede "Understanding ST-35", maybe it can give you some answers as well.

Interesting reading, but still unclear as to what everything does. I've included a schematic for those who would like to give this a try:

    Thanks again.

I have to concur with erlingt.

First get a grip on the basics. Start with INDIVIDUAL tube stages and how they amplify. Then go to phase inverters, which are easier to decipher if you already know how a tube amplifies.

You may have been a lazy student in school but if you really love this stuff, you'll make the effort to understand it, now!

As you found out when attempting to decipher that "Understanding the ST-35" item, there is a lot of clever engineering in that amplifier.
