    FM2-A insert Empty FM2-A insert

    Hi Bob:
I have a couple of questions for you. Does the FM2-A insert convert the tuner to a stereo or is it just an amp?
The second question is how hard are the inserts to find? I have a chance to buy a mono tuner that was stored for many years and is in almost new condition. It not even dusty inside. I am thinking of it for a restoration if it becomes a stereo tuner with the insert.
BTW your new amp schematic is a very elegant and simple design design. I admire your work on that one.
    cheers

    Hi Baddog,

The FM2-A insert is a single channel power amplifier similar to one channel of an ST-35 power amp. The FM2-A converts the FM-1 to a "tuner-amplifier" or a mono receiver. It does not convert the FM-1 mono tuner to a stereo tuner. There was a conversion kit called the Dynaco FMX-3 that converted a Dynaco FM-1 mono tuner to a stereo tuner equivalent to the Dynaco FM-3 stereo tuner. Both the FM2-A and the FMX-3 are almost impossible to find but I have seen one or the other pop up on Ebay every now and then. If anyone viewing this post is a Dynaco buff, you can read about both at the two links below which go to copies of the original manuals (in pdf format) for each unit.
