    Jantzen .22UF 1200volt Z-Silver capacitor Empty Jantzen .22UF 1200volt Z-Silver capacitor

I purchased the ST-120 kit with the 4 matched Russian caps. I got four of the Jantzen .22uF 1200volt Z-Silver capacitor (new) for free (Long Story)

Looking for some thoughts on what to do with the 8 .22uF caps.

Options I can think of -

Option 1 - Go with the Russian caps in in the main Coupling Cap spots (C5 - C8) and the use the 10 uF caps @ 400 volts that came in spots C1 - C4.
Option 2 - Go with the Jantzen caps in in the main Coupling Cap spots (C5 - C8) and the use the 10 uF caps @ 400 volts that came in spots C1 - C4.

    Option 3 and 4 are assuming I can run .22uF caps in spots C1 - C4
Option 3 - Go with the Russian caps in in the main Coupling Cap spots (C5 - C8) and the use the Jantzen caps in spots C1 - C4.
Option 4 - Go with the Jantzen caps in in the main Coupling Cap spots (C5 - C8) and the use the Russian caps in spots C1 - C4.

    Appreciate any feedback.

Over on another forum, one fellow was playing with swapping capacitors, and as I recall, he installed two different sets, with a selector switch to toggle between one set up and the other . . .

A lot of fiddling, but it would make for quick A-B comparison listening.

    That would be really cool.

I don't think I'm ready to go to this level of moddding. This is my first build so I'm leaning towards keeping things basic and will most likely go with option 1. Maybe option 2.

If I could fit option 3 or 4 on the bottom of the board it is tempting. I would be nice to put all these nice caps to use!

I also have to be careful with the Russian caps.. Not insulated...

The best thing to do IMHO is build the amps with the parts that were sent and then let the amp break in for a month or two. In that time you will get a feel for how the amp sounds with the Russian PIO in there in the main coupling cap position. Then if you want to pull the 4 Russian caps and try the Jantzen caps in there you would then better aware of any difference (good or bad) between the two sets of caps.

Caps C1 - C4 are part of the phase splitter/phase inverter section of the circuit. I have use Russian PIO caps in there in place of the supplied orange drop caps and never could hear any difference in the sound. Of those 4 caps (C1-C4), by the way, only two of them are directly in the signal path. C1 (left channel) and C2 (right channel) ARE directly in the signal whereas C3 and C4 are not directly in the signal path. On the 4 Russian PIO caps (C5 - C8) - ALL FOUR OF THEM are directly in the signal path so they will tend to have more influence on the sound of the amp.
