Beginner's Guide to Tube Audio Design (Book) Empty Beginner's Guide to Tube Audio Design (Book)

So Christmas is coming. I was thinking for 20 bucks the book "Beginner's Guide to Tube Audio Design
" may be cool. I just built my new ST-120... I'd like to get to know more about what is going on under the hood and in those tubes.

The book does some highlights on "all-time classic tube amplifier designs" It highlights 12 classic tube amps. Jefferson 2A3, the Williamson, The McIntosh MC-60, and the Marantz Model 5 are some of the 12.

It would be nice to know if the ST-70 is in this... You'd think the best selling amp may be.

anyone have this book? Should I get another book?

I have a copy of this book. The Dynaco ST-70 amplifier is not featured, but the MK III is, as well as the PAS-2 preamplifier. Overall it is a fairly good, although not extensive, tutorial on tube design.

Let me know if you think another book would be good for someone pretty new to the tube amp.

    I appreciate you responding.

I do recommend this book and additionally I suggest the following (check used book stores, Ebay, Antique Electronics Supply or Old Colony Sound websites, etc.):

    1. A 1950's to 1970's edition of the USN "Basic Electronics" training manual

    2. A 1970's vintage RCA tube manual

    3. Copies of mid 20th century radio or electronics magazines (many contain tutorial type articles)

BTW: if you are interested, I will sell my copy of the "Beginners Guide" at a very reasonable price. Send me a PM for details

    Best Regards,
    Charlie

I'll second the Pete Millett "tubebooks" site. It's just awesome and really a great service!
While you're there check out his other site:
    http://www.pmillett.com/
for interesting and geeky amplifier designs! I'm in the middle of building his "829b amp"!
