My baby minty ST-70

As the story goes, this amp was born and built in Texas near Dallas. I bought it on eBay from a guy in New Hampshire. I live in DC, so it has seen at least half of the country. The things I find most interesting are the inspection stickers from Texas in the 60’s and 70’s. The shop that did the work, Hillcrest High Fidelity is still in business as is the original Mullard made in Blackpool England rectifier tube AFAIK. The finish is in great shape. No greasy human hands are allowed to touch it in my house. I bought it in 2005 completely stock and it served me very well for a few years. I thought I paid a premium (overpaid), but looking at prices now I did very well. Time to upgrade. I polished the new quad cap to a mirror shine, dropped in a VTA board, and replaced the input and output terminals. If I can get this thing running on all cylinders again it will be the last amp I need for a long time.

I have a Dynaco FM-3 tuner with an identical Hillcrest Hi-Fi calibration sticker on the back, which I got from a friend several years ago. Hillcrest Hi-Fi is indeed still in business, primarily focusing on home theatre. Back in the 60's - 70's they were the Dynaco, McIntosh and (I believe) Klipsch franchise for Dallas. Although I wasn't "well-heeled" enough to do much business there, I did enjoy "window shopping" from time to time.

Charlie, that must have been interesting to go to an audio shop and see people that understand their craft rather than reciting marketing propaganda.

Here is the rest of the Dynaco kit. The speakers are A-25s. I bought them without grills so I made my own. Black was a bit more contemporary than the vintage covers. I might remake them in the more authentic white fabric. The PAS-3 certainly needs a rebuild, but it just keeps going and sounds ok. Today is dynaco day and running them all together, which I have not done in years. It does have a very pleasing vintage sound. The speaker in particular are boomy, not very detailed in any range, but they are one of my favorite speakers to listen to. Go figure.

Yep, the audio business was just a little different back then. Just wondering...which PAS input do you have the "victrola" connected to?
