Re: what preamp ?
I can only vouch for the c32. I've never heard of the other.
It's been noted, the c32 can have tricky to fix problems. I've never experienced them (knock on glass).

What preamp
Never owned a Macintosh, but I had an SP9 before I owned an SP11 and it was nearly as good. You can use low output mc cartridges with it and insert loading resisters to suit the cartridge.
It was a great value preamp in its day and probably would be today if it is up to spec.

Re: what preamp ?
I have a McIntosh C32 preamp. It is a VERY nice preamp. Built in 5-band EQ and a 12W/ch "monitor" amp. Terrific sounding. It has 2 phono inputs but they're both MM only
I recently picked up one of the Dared MC-7P preamps and I like it a little better driving my VTA/ST-120. Something about a tubed preamp driving a tubed amp I guess.
Here's the Dared: http://www.dared.us/products_mc7p.php
By the way I have the C32 up for sale at a very good price.

I favor my Citation I over any of my SS preamps.
