Worst looking ST-70 of all time ? - photos

Here is an ST-70 chassis frame and driver board from an amp that supposedly was used for a number of years by a "gator poacher" who lived in the everglades in Florida. I guess that humid Florida air might have something to do with the condition of this amp's chassis.

Let's see what would be the best way to clean this driver board ? Hmmmm ...

Hey - Do you have a photo of another "rust bucket" ST-70? Post it in this thread ...

Do you suppose if the owner were to sell this amp, it would be advertised " as is " ?
It would appear that it would take a life-time to get it cleaned up. Where would you start? He may want to purposely omit any pictures in a "for sale" listing!

Ouch that thing rivals this one 1948 RCA radio that I had for a while. The radio had spent 10+ years sitting on the floor in a damp and frequently flooded basement. There was more corrosion than electronics.

What I have noticed over the years working on a number of ST-70's is that the BACK face of the amp is usually in WORSE condition that the front face. Two things come to mind here > (1) the back face of the amp is many times pushed up against or very near a wall. This would restrict air circulation and probably contribute to more rust on the back face of the amp. (2) the front of the amp with a closer proximity to the tubes is warmer which may help to drive off moisture. Just a theory ?
