I found this alternate stepped attenuator a while ago and now that I have tried it I find it works very well. Good price too.

    Hi George,

It looks like a good value. Just to clear, that stepped attenuator is physically too large to fit in the stereo/mono slot of an ST-70 or the VTA ST-120. It is about 1 1/4 inches in diameter (30 mm) and would fit OK into the depth of an ST-70 chassis (which has about 1 5/8 inches of depth) but you would have to drill a 10 mm hole in the chassis somewhere to mount this attenuator.

The VTA stepped attenuator is about 13/16 inch in diameter (about 20 mm) and fits into the stereo/mono slot with only a couple of millimeters to spare ..

    Hi Bob:
Yes, I tried it in a st70 standard chassis it is not practical for it. I am using it in one of my custom chassis but it should fit nicely in all the preamps.

looks identical to the ones I use in my preamps (SP14 & SP12), different supplier, but they both come from HongKong, and takes about 3 weeks.
