Seems like a good explanation of the mechenical hum that disturbs me.
In fact, in 1970 i built and used a pair of MkIII, but had to sell them ( and replace with
a ARD-76 that was dead silent )
The MkIII vibrated not only with their covers, but even more due to the magnetic
properties of the chassies they were made of.
Maybe we should convert to DC ( 380V DC should be quite good to run stereos on :-)

Peterh, I rewind my original transformer (PA-060) to a friend in Barcelona (Spain).
- Primary 240V / 50Hz..
- Secondary 5,3Amp filaments.
- Secondary 3Amp rectifier valve.
- Electrostatic screen between primary and secondary.
Performance is very good, and quite cold.
