Newly proposed VTA Lirpaloof M-500 monoblock amp - chassis photo .. LirpaLoofM-500

Above is a chassis photo of the newly proposed VTA Lipraloof M-500 500 watt monoblock amp. Someone had suggested to me to create a larger 8 output tube per monoblock but I figured lets just go all the way and make it a 500 watt monoblock amp with SIXTEEN output tubes! Yes - the power transformer uses the same mounting holes as the M-125 monoblock but the stack instead of being 2.75 inches high is now a full 12 inches high. The power transformer will weigh in at a hernia inducing 40 pounds. The quad cap cut out will be retained for looks but the amp will have an under chassis 5000 uF power board. There is only one rectifier tube socket but I will be contacting Weber to make a new WZ68686868 copper cap solid state rectifier with can flow about 1000 milliamps. If these monoblocks are used with some nice efficient Klipsch 100+ dB speakers, you should be able to reach at least 125 dB of loudness in your living room. Your neighbors (up to a block away) may be a little upset but at least you can say you are listening at "concert levels".

This amp is still in the design stage. If any of the forum members have any ideas about what they would like to see in this newly proposed amp they should post their ideas here ..

    Hi Bob,

This beauty is obviously bubbling up from a deep well of creativity, so I can add little, except to note that it is now time to return to the stereo format - those working with low efficiency speakers might want to strap two channels together for 1000W output.

    Best,

Bob, I love your Lirpaloof concept. I'm agreeing with Dan and wonder why you want to limit it to only 500W? Looks like you have the space to add another 16 tubes for an even 1KW. Maybe you could use a couple of 1.5KW transmitter tubes and go even higher.

Happy APRIL fools day Bob. Lirpa is April backwards, from Radio Electronics mag many years ago.

Will Lirpa Labs of Russia be involved with the process?

I think the use of a dual ultra-sonic flux capacitor would add real value. While I'm thinking of it,could I order mine with corinthian leather?

OK, so I'm a couple days late to the parade, but I think if you're gonna do it right, it needs to be a fully balanced amplifier, which means instead of a single channel you need two channels for mono, four channels for stereo, and so that needs to be supplemented with a fully balanced preamplifier with four channels for stereo. For those of you who can't figure this out, just think XLR connectors.
Rather than amplifying signal and ground, you take a balanced input signal (common on phono cartridges, for example, or extreme high end CD players and/or DACs, where the signal is + and - plus a ground, rather than a single-ended signal plus ground.
The + and - channels cancel out common mode noise and distortion all the way thru the chain.
A lirpAlooF phono preamp, line amp, and quad of lirpAlooF monoblocks could easily be done for less than the price of a decent new car, let's just round it off to maybe $30,000 and no $4 a gallon gasoline required!!
I'd offer an option of those special "audiophile" fuses that go for $60 each, one for each output tube, so 36 output tubes times $60, that's a cheap $2160 insurance upgrade.
Don't forget to add decent interconnects ($500 each) and speaker cables (another $500 each).
