    Eico HF-86 Empty Eico HF-86

Post by NuttyLemur Tue Jul 09, 2013 11:10 pm

I may have the opportunity to buy an Eico HF-86. I looked at it today and looks like the capacitors are shot, but otherwise it looks to be in fairly good shape. tubes are all there, transformers look good. of course I couldn't turn it on and would be taking a risk at buying it.

Just curious if anyone on this forum has one or heard one and if it is worth buying one.

I would have to buy new speakers too, thinking about some older used Klipschorns I saw at a local electronics store (probably overkill for the eico but would be good for my ST70).

Be sure you have a source for the 7247 tubes.

Those who love the EICO HF-81 tend to also like the HF-86. In its stock form I was not enamored with the HF-81, and traded up to Dynaco relatively rapidly after coupling capacitor failures burned up sets of EL84 output tubes.
