Thank-you for your sympathy/empathy. The tears are running from you all, I know. I do have a "spare" system comprising Bedini preamp and amp, and Dynaco A-35s, so it will not be a complete withdrawal. But it's a bit like going from Glenlivit to Old Grand-dad. I'll report back in when the shakes subside.

Wasnt there a Glen Livit step in your Dynakit building instructions? Mine instructed me to dispose of anything with more malts in it than single, and anything younger than 15 years!

Better quality single malts are well known to enhance the experience of listening to glass audio.

Best get with the program, Dave, of Bob may recall your amp, and replace it with a 6pack, suitable for enjoying solid state amplification. I think it's the impurities in both that make them so synergistically, or better, simbiotically compatible.

I'm doing a slow de-tox, starting with Suntory Yamazaki, on a 12-step descent to Rainier beer by way of Jura and perhaps some Canadians. My sandboxes are sounding better already. Perhaps I will give my M-125s to a street person and just get one of them iPod things.

I have to invest in a better stereo for the office if I hope to get my sushi budget under control.

Noob, I would have your Japanese restaurant order a bottle of the Suntory; it's about $100, so not too many shots. It will cure your sushi and saki habit.

I confess to near utter ignorance when it comes to burbon, but I've heard its an easy taste to acquire where the student already enjoys scotch.

Perhaps I should have some in the office for days like this when my clients stand me up. Why should they be the only ones having fun avoiding me?!

like scotch, there is good Bourbon and down right nasty Bourbon. Bulleit is very good, so is Willies Bourbon, made right here in Ennis MT!

Not anymore. Rainier's made in L.A., better water, one supposes.
We had some fine breweries in the Pacific Northwest: Rainier (Seattle) Heidelberg (Tacoma) (Olympia (Tumwater, WA) Lucky Lager (Vancouver, WA) and Blitz-Weinard (PDX). All gone.
I remember when the Rainier brewery got turned into a coffee roaster house. Damned near flew a plane into it, but the yuppies beat me to it.
Flying in to Boeing Field, that was the pattern, "turn downwind and report the brewery". Wonder what the tower says now: "Report the coffeerrey?"
Without that big R on top, how would you even know?

I am fast becoming a fan of Montana, with a growing list of reasons to visit the place! I thank you for these suggestions. I will see what I can do about sampling them both.

I see the problem is even more complicated than switching landmark labels--there are navigation implications: you want to stay upwind of those birkenstock wearing, dreadlock swinging, deodorant eshewing nuveau hippies!

I did somehow get on a mailing list for a company that markets copper stills. A fantasy about out doing my friends who think they can make wine at home. Ha ha ha harrrrr!

Bourbon is like Scotch, or many other things. There is a wide variety of tastes. Don't get the first thing, and decide it is not for you. I also like the Bulleit, but there are many high-dollar offerings, which I cannot stand. You might like those. A low-cost option I like is the Jack Daniels Gentleman Jack. I prefer it to their more expensive single-cask product.

Oh, yeah, that's how we started. I've gone the wooden chassis route for my SP-13 and PH-16. The line preamp is off to Roy, who has some very nice looking boxes and the PH-16 is off to Troy Madden as we speak. I can turn on the M-125s with the preamps shipped off but not much sound comes out . . . ergo the withdrawal symptoms.
Chasing down noise and grounding issues with this conversion is rather time-consuming, and I'm in for cataract surgery in a coupla weeks, couldn't even try wiring a car battery at this point.

Dinner last night. Gyro with tzatziki sauce washed down with Corfu bitter ale and Ouzo ... can't get more Japanese than that!

PS ... not a big sushi fan. If you eat a lot of raw fish, tell the doc to check for tapeworms when you get a physical. I suppose a lot would depend on where you get it ... I hear gas station sushi is the best!
