Hi Scott --- take look at the following links:

    http://www.duncanamps.com/tdsl/show.php?des=CV345 and
    http://www.r-type.org/exhib/aai0167.htm

In the picture of the CV345 on the aai0167.htm page, there is a metal connector on the top of the tube which requires some sort of electrical signal.

The 6550/kt88/kt100/kt120 tubes do not have the topside connection.

So, the CV345 is not a drop in replacement for a VTA ST120 Amplifier.  Also the other tube you mentioned, the 12e1 which is something like the CV345 is also not a kt88 replacement tube.

    Hope this helps,
    Stew

Scott -- also, on the Duncanamps page for the CV345, there is no mention of the KT88, only the 12e1.

    Just for yuks ...

The KT88 anode is pin #3. That pin is "no connection" on the CV345.

    So ...

Run a tail and anode cap from pin #3 on the KT120 socket to make the connection on the CV345?

Certainly be a conversation piece if you could get it to work ...
