    Tube rolling Empty Tube rolling

Is it possible to use 12AT7s instead of 12AU7s in the phase splitter positions on the low gain VTA board? Would there be any sonic advantages doing this or could this fry the board since the board is optimized for lower gain tubes? Just wondering.

    Hi,

You won't fry the board but those parts are optimized for the 12AU7 tube.. In the two side phase splitter/phase inverter positions, changing from the 12AU7 to the 12AT7 probably won't make much difference in the sound. If, however, you swap out the center 12AU7 for a 12AT7 the gain of the amp will go up slightly.
