    KT 120's in Mark III's? Empty KT 120's in Mark III's?

    I'm selling a quad of KT 120 tubes and a potential buyer asked if they would work in Mark III's. My guess is no problem, but I'd like to be sure. Thanks. Bill

    I have Tungsol KT120s in my Dynakitparts MKIII (2008) and have been using them for over a year. Biasing was not an issue with the VTA boards.They replaced the Genalex Gold Lion KT88s which grew tired after a couple of years of hard use.

    A pair of KT-120 will draw about 0.5A more filament current that a pair of 6550/KT-88. Could be noticeable in terms of PT temp.

    Yes indeed. Why use a more expensive tube with less linearity that draws more current?

    Longer life, slightly higher output? BTW, Tungsol KT120 are cheaper that Genelex KT88

    What are you using for a rectifier?

    For the past month I have moved to using the Weber WS1 Copper Cap. Up until then I was using Tungsol 5AR4s. I have the diode mod and the TDRs already installed. Reason for change is because I cannot leave well enough alone. Very Happy

    They sound better ... that's gotta count for something anyway, right? clown

    I prefer those to any current production KT88 I've tried ... those include the Psvane and TAD offerings. Much stronger bottom end, and crystal clear over the range. Also cheaper than some of the pricier uber tubes - the TADs actually cost more. The KT120's bias up nicely at 55mV on my ST120 and have a couple years on them anyway. I went with 60mV for quite some time, but backed them off as there was no real advantage to the higher bias. I've also since gone to a 6SN7 center driver which adds more load to the iron with no issues - B+ is still in range, even running the amp at 117vac courtesy of a bucker. You won't see the full output in any amp not specifically designed for them, but that just means they're running way below peak, so longevity shouldn't be an issue. That said, they're good for an additional 10% output without having to make any circuit mods.

    * Running a Mullard GZ37 as a rectifier ...

    My apologies if it's been covered ... not an issue with the Latino kits, but will the STOCK Dynaco iron handle the additional demand?
