New (mostly) VTA system pics Empty New (mostly) VTA system pics

Post by grosen Sat Aug 29, 2020 12:37 pm

Haven't seen many new pics here lately so I thought I'd post some of my mostly VTA system.  Everything is basically stock except for the cheap and easy walnut trays for the PH16x and ST-120. The system is a VPI Scout w/Clearaudio Virtuoso v2 --> PH16x --> Sachs Model 2 --> ST-120 --> Troels Gravesen Fusion speakers, with a Bluesound Node 2i for streaming.  Two tube upgrades that made a big difference:  Mullard CV4003 in the center position in ST-120 and Matsushita/Mullard/National ECC88s in V1 and V2 of the PH16x.

I'd like to thank Bob and Roy for making these kits available. Putting this system together has been a real pleasure.

Picked up a 6SN7 -> 12AU7 adapter and gave this a try.  Funny looking, but so far it sounds pretty great.

It is. The Shugang 6SN7/CV181s are all big and interesting looking. This one is called a 6SN7 WE plus. — I don’t know what the WE is supposed to mean, since Western Electric never made a 6SN7. But some people rave about them in 6SN7 preamps, so I thought I’d give them a try. They seem just a shade darker/warmer in the ST-120 compared to the Mullard CV4003 and the Gold Lion 12AU7. But so far I like what I’m hearing.
