Dynaco MVP-100 Pre amp Empty Dynaco MVP-100 Pre amp

Post by vanity Tue Feb 22, 2011 5:07 pm

I've seen one of these advertised and wondering if it would be a good sonic match for my ST70 scratch . Does anyone know anything about this pre, I don't want to bother unless it is a good preamp in its own right.

I can't find any useful info anywhere study so I'm depending on a super-geek being able to help here. Laughing

The Dynaco MVP-100 is a line stage only tube preamp with three inputs and a volume control. It is circa 1998 and was made by Panor after they acquired Dynaco. I have just seen photos of this preamp. My feeling is that not to many were sold and they are rare. I don't know anything about the circuit or what kind of tubes this preamp used. If any reader knows anything about the Dynaco MVP-100 tube preamp from the late '90's post what you know up here?

Update on 2/23/11 - It looks like two compactron tubes in there ? Anyone have any other ideas ?

my guess is those are just standard 12AU7 type tubes, and it probably sounds alot better than a PAS3, but no phono section. Any tube preamp that works is probably worth $250 since a junk PAS3 costs that much.

Roy is essentially correct. Here's a link below to Canuck Audiomart where there was (it's been sold) a new in box MVP-100 for sale. The seller stated that it "comes with a pair of Philips military grade 12AX7 tubes."

    Hi Charlie,

Thanks for the info ... Those tubes are 12AX7's. I don't know. I guess from the angle of the photo that tube looked a little "fatter" than normal sort of like a compactron tube instead of a 12AX7 tube ..

Bob, I thought the same as you at first. I could even see six of the pins in the left-hand tube, making me think there must be twelve instead of nine. Like you said, it was probably the angle of the photo.

Thanks you guys. It was, in fact, the Hugarian one I was interested in. Taking on board what you have just told me, I think it's overpriced.
    Thanks Again Smile
