Ok, many brands of tubes to chose from. Where to begin? Looking for
the best overall sound quality out of a mark 3. Genalex Gold Lion,
Sovtek, Tung-sol, etc. Any brands that people tend to swear by?

I bought a quad of JJ KT77's as well as a quad of Winged C EL34's, both of which sound great in either the ST-70 or Mark IV's. I think I slightly prefer the sound of the KT77's but I'm also curious to try a quad of Gold Lion KT66's.

    Hi ToolGURU

I currently run a quad of Genalex repro Gold Lion KT-66 tubes, and the build quality of these tubes is excellent. The tubes themselves sound VERY good too - I have read accounts from guitar players at the guitar tube amp forums who maintain that these repros sound better than the original GEC Genalex tubes.

Assuming that the Genalex KT-88 tubes are built to the same standard, I would definately go with a quad of those. Expensive at $200 for a quad, but not as expensive as the EAT KT-88 tubes (around $1,400 for a quad)....

I have tried the EH and the Genelex Repros and I can recommend the Genelex repros. I have been using them for around a year now with no issues and they sound great.
