Is anyone using his boards or upgrades in their system?

I just heard about him and wondered if he had a respectable business with good parts.

    Thanks

    Hi Steve --

Over the past 15 years I have used Sheldon's Power Supply Modification PCB on 2 or 3 Dynaco FM-3 Tuners and was very pleased with the results.

If I remember correctly, back in the late 1990's I bought some of his blank PCBs and populated them, and then installed them in a FM-3 Tuner. I liked the results so much I used his website's pdf files to etch my own copies of his PCBs and used them. I have not bought any of Sheldon's offerings since then.

I have also used his Power Supply Modification PCB's on Dynaco MK3's and the Dynaco ST-70 amplifiers.

His original design and mod info can be gotten at the link:
    http://www.quadesl.com/pdf/
which is a collection of pdf files for dynaco/heath/fisher/others etc mods.

Triode Electronics sells a bunch of his PCBs/Kits with reasonable documentation along with their own flavor of updates. Their link is:
    http://www.triodeel.com/dynaco.html

I have bought a lot of their PCB kits and have been happy most of the time. If I have problems, I email their tech and ask questions. He is most helpful.

There must be at least 8 or more companies selling similar or equivalent products. If you google "Dynaco Mods for your specific item" you should be able to find them.

    Hope this helps??!!

    Thanks Stew

Sheldon got back to me and I'll be calling him this afternoon.
He has a kit for almost all my gear (HK,Fisher,Dynaco,etc.).
I'll probably get the st-70,pas3x and SA-100 kits for starters.

I was hoping he was still in Albuquerque. He now resides in Indiana.

    Steve,

I'm using one of Sheldon's 6AU6 boards in an ST-70 I built from reproducion parts on the internet. I got it from Triode Electornics. It works very nicely, but I'd be lying if I said it was better than the stock set up. It was designed to use the same circuit with more available tubes. I would have bought a repro 7199 board if the tubes were not so over priced or unavailable new.

There is a 6GH8 board available that is the same as a stock board, just with rewired pin locations. It would work similar to the ST-70 Series II which also used the 6GH8. According to Dynaco, the 6GH8 was comparable in quality to the 7199. Subjective at best I'd say.

Or a 6GH8 converter is available for the original or replacement boards. There are many other boards that depart from the original topology for many reasons with varying degrees of success.

The point is there are many choices from stock, to modified, to flat out major upgrades (like the VTA board).

My choice was to try using the original circuit with other tubes and save some money for the transformers and chassis and other parts while staying electrically stock. Had I known about the 6GH8 board, I may have tried that instead.

    YMMV,
