the drawing has an error, A and 12 are reversed on the right channel, 12 is the input from the switch, A is the output to the volume control
also of note, a few customers have dropped the gain/balance selectors when the nut was off, and put back the stop pin in the wrong place,
make sure you've got all 11 or 12 positions available.
here's an updated version of the drawing (although I haven't use that volume attenuator for about a year now)

I'll give this a try Roy. That was why I emailed you this weeks ago and wondered about the whole shebang and you said the drawing was correct. I sensed something was wierd with this or I just assumed you worked in a totally different plane Smile

I don't know if this will help here is  a pic of my sp14  attenuator wiring . They are all Goldpoints but the  wireing should be similar.
The green & white  -and- red & white wires go to the  tape switch then on to the selector switch . The long black & red -and - black & green wires up top go to the circut board input

Well...it's amazing what happens when something is wired correctly!!!

Now we're talking.  Both channels throw within a decibal or two of each other.  The sound stage is HUGE.  I never believed the difference a pre-amp can make, but now I do.  And this is the initial "quick listen."  My ST70 has about 75 hours on it and the SP14 about, oh, 30 minutes.  So my next question is how much with this system change and when do I dare even THINK about tube rolling?  I think it's showing the distortion or "brightness" of my Tannoys which have been a criticism of them, but I do still like them for what I use them for.  Next up, let this puppy burn in and get a good DA/C.

Thank you for helping me everyone, I truly do appreciate it. I will post a more detailed review geared towards newbies like myself after a while.

Also Roy, I did that with the dropped nut, and you guided me through it when it happened. So that was OK. The sound is now starting to really impress me. The sound stage is just huge and pleasing and I could stay up all night listening to this. Thank you.

I did stay up all night listening to it. It is so hugely different than my other pre. A detailed review will follow after it burns in. I'm so very, very tired...
