Power cord bypass capacitors Empty Power cord bypass capacitors

Post by Dale Stevens Mon Sep 07, 2015 4:56 pm

Are these really needed? I have a PAT 5 on the bench that has 50vac or so on the chassis to earth grd. Also meas my 19" rack
and I see almost 30vac on the metal. (also has a PAT 5 as the main pre). You may notice that the PAT 5's were always powered up, the power sw only applied ac to the swithed outlets. Schematics here @ Bob's sticky. https://dynacotubeaudio.forumotion.com/t2-32-free-dynaco-tube-and-solid-state-assembly-manuals-available-for-download-links-inside

Can these caps be deleted? I also have a Dyna PAT 4 that has no caps and is almost zero.
I have reversed the power cords but no change. That's all, Dale

    Hi Dale,

You haven't been banned but this forum is for Dynaco TUBE Audio .. You are asking a question about Dynaco solid state gear .. I am not sure about the correct answer to your question and evidently other's are also not sure - SO - you are getting no response.

If someone here is familiar with both the Dynaco PAT-4 and PAT-5 solid state preamps, maybe you could help out here. I can't say why you are getting 50 VAC on your Dynaco PAT-5's chassis ? I am not familiar with the grounding schemes on either preamp.

Thx, Bob. I'll go ahead and clip the cap leads and give it a test. Dale
