    Hi,

    I have someone that wants to know if a Dynaco tube cage will fit on a VTA ST-120 chassis that uses the Tung-Sol KT120 output tubes. I have no tube cages here to check this out? If anyone is using KT120 output tubes on a VTA ST-120 WITH A TUBE CAGE, let me know if the cage fits on the top without hitting the top of the KT120 ?

    Bob,
    I don't believe the cover will fit when using the KT120 output tubes. Cover inside vertical clearance is 4.50" from top side of chassis.

    The Genalex KT-88 is only 4mm shorter (110mm vs. 114mm) and it fits quite nicely under the cage. The TungSol KT-120, while it will fit, would push the limits. However, if instead of screwing down the cover, you place it firmly in the chassis grooves which gives another half-inch of clearance, it will be quite stable. If needed, cardboard or wooden shims can be easily fashioned to increase stability.
    I've been using the cage this way for well over a year. Works like a charm.
    Using the cage in this manner allows me to adjust bias, and remove the cage for any reason without a screwdriver or hernia.

    Bob I have an ST-120 I bought from you and I'm using the KT-120 tubes using and the ST-70 cover i bought from DynaKitParts it fit's just fine and looks great.
    PS I'm not using any shims or anything elese.

    Hi Main,

    Are you still using this setup?
    I'm curious about the KT120's and have the same cage. I'm working through the auto bias board so I won't have to un-do the cage. I'm looking to get a quad and the 120's are actually less than the GL KT88's at this point in time with comparable sonics.

    I'm right at 1900 hours on my ST-120 and still enjoying the KT-120s with a 6SN7 in center with Conn 12BH7s on the outboard cage still in place!

    After not hearing anything, I ordered some KT88's yesterday afternoon. Later, I saw you replied. I emailed Jim McShane and he was able to make the change to KT120's before shipping.
    So glad you posted back !!! Thanks to you and Jim.
