RCA 5963 low gain board

Anyone ever try RCA 5963 with low gain vta st70?

I have a pair of grey ladder plate and a single black ladder plate.

Whats the difference between the two? And are they considered audio tubes?

I totally agree with deepee99 here .. That link gives a pretty accurate description of 5963 tubes. Any of the USA made 5963, 5814 and 6189 (12AU7 type) tubes are better built, will last longer and will usually sound better than most modern 12AU7 tubes. RCA, GE and Sylvania made millions of these (5963's) for the USA military years ago and there is still good stock on these on Ebay and other web sites. Because of the fairly good supply, these tubes can still be found at reasonable prices. Right now I have here some Sylvania 5963's that I am shipping to customers that want a tube set with their amp kits.

Today I plugged in some Beckman (Sylvania) long plate 5963s into the phase inverter slots on my ST-120. Nice bass and vocals plus smooth highs. An eye (ear?) opening experience!
