How do you like me now?
I got everything running correctly and decided to finish my mods. I took out the Cornell bypass and put in copper foil ones, I made a rosewood face and installed the bias meters. I also moved the RCA connectors to the back. Now it looks great and sounds even better!

Nice, esp the meters and rosewood. What is purpose of those rings around your tubes?

Ostensibly vibration dampers. Wanna start a food fight? Ask if they do any good or not. I've used them and not used them. They might be of aid to a microphonic tube. But I couldn't hear a difference on normally functioning tubes.LeGrace wrote:Nice, esp the meters and rosewood. What is purpose of those rings around your tubes?

Yes, as Deepee said, they are tube dampers. They help with microphonic tubes. I have had them work on an expensive 9 pin that was microphonic before, now I use them for cheap insurance.

Purty!
Did you check your bias readings at the standard test points? There can be a substantial difference depending on how and where the meters are wired into the circuit.

Re: How do you like me now?
Yes, the meters are hooked up to pins # 8 and are spot on. I installed a switch on the back so I can read front or back tubes- the middle setting on the switch shows 0.00 if I put it there. It is kind of an eye opener that the bias numbers move around a little as the unit plays- I guess I never thought of it- but it makes sense as the load changes & the unit warms up etc.

Impressive!
Being in an environment where "Cage-Free" is not an option, your visuals are excellent!

Thank you. You see Murphy as my avatar - a very-nearly 20 pound Maine Coon (missed it by an ounce). Then there is Seamus, an 18 pound Maine Coon mix. Together with grand-kids and two active dogs - hence the lack of Cage-Free options.

Peter,
Here is my free advice for a groovy look with a cage... I call it the "uncaged- cage look". BTW, I have three dogs; two are puppies.
