Re: PAS 3 Problems
Yeah, that's the biggest challenge. I tried some plastic/cloth adhesive last night. I'll see how strong it is this morning. But I've never seen leads that small. I can't even test them with a DMM. They're too fragile.

The challenge is always fun in fixing transformers but I would get that torrid
for 28 dollars. You are going to drive yourself crazy with that transformer and
if it was a better made Power transformer it would be worth it but those transformers
are the weakest link in the PAS series. You have a nice PS board you built and the new transformer would complement that circuit so well. I used 4 of them including one in my PAS3X and I couldn't be happier.

Re: PAS 3 Problems
I've read some comments suggesting people have had problems with them failing. But for $30, I might be inclined to give one a try. Fixing the original I have is proving to be extremely difficult, and I haven't been able to find any replacements. It seems everyone is sold of the new units. You've had good luck with them?

Re: PAS 3 Problems
Yes
I've had great luck with them. Being a torroid, it's much more efficient than the EI Core as far as a power transformer goes. I don't like torroids for outputs unless you get some real good ones but this little transformer is perfect and it frees up room to do other mods if you want. You can't go wrong with this transformer.

Yeah, even if it fails, it's not that much money. And most of them must be fine, or they wouldn't stay in production. Otherwise, I don't know when I might find one used. My understanding is that the company that was building the new, replacement units for Triode and Dynakit went out of business.

This same place also has the EI core transformer. Sometimes when you hear people talk about about failures, they are spinning their wheels thru something they may have heard. Take a look at the other transformers they have. That torrid will work perfectly and I have worked on tube gear for 44 years now.

Re: PAS 3 Problems
The page is saying the units are not available. Does that make sense to you?

It's possible. Are you talking about the torroids?

Yeah. When I hit the add to cart button, a dialog box pops up saying it isn't available.

I saw that one but the bid is at 10.88 with a couple days to go. He should try for it.

Yeah, I saw that a few days ago. I have it on my watchlist. Otherwise, I'm going to have to go with a Hammond and try to make sure everything specs out. https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/hammond-manufacturing/273AZ/454563?s=N4IgTCBcDaIA4EMBOAXABGA7AZgIIC0BaAOQBEQBdAXyA

Re: PAS 3 Problems
I'm definitely waiting to see about the one on eBay. It has a couple days left on it. If that doesn't work out, then I'll get serious about finding a suitable replacement. I haven't really even looked into that yet, at least not any further than seeing about the toroid.

Re: PAS 3 Problems
I'm ready to throw the thing in the garbage! I bought the transformer that was listed on eBay. When it arrived, I put it on the bench and verified that it's working properly. I then installed it in the preamp, and same damn thing. Apparently the transformer wasn't the problem. I was never able to test the old one because the lead broke off after I took it out. When I try to power up, it's exactly the same thing. The DBT lights up dimly, so I assume there's a dead short somewhere, but I've checked everything and can't find it. Clearly, I'm out of my ability level here. Does anyone have a diagnostic plan I could try? I've never had a problem like this. Hell, I've never had any problems with my builds. This is a first for me, and I'm stumped and stupid.

Re: PAS 3 Problems
Frisco, keep this bumped up, as i'm certain some on here can help; Maybe everyone is just busy.
Do you have a good test meter with capacitance function ? and ESR meter? seems the PAS has a near short on the board where the new PT inputs. Don't trash it (we'll take it) Dale
