I recently inherited an Adcom cartridge that was still on a tonearm, model XC/LTII. From what I read this was a high end cart in its day. I played it through my system a couple times but the stylus is seriously compromised. It looks like this does not have a replaceable stylus. Are these able to be rebuilt? Is it worth it or better to get another cartridge? Thanks.

Adcom Cartridge Model XC/LTII
Hi ---- I did a google search on your cartridge, and someone used SoundSmith to "rebuild their cartridge".
Might be a possibility for you??!!

Re: Adcom cartridge rebuild?
Many thanks. I guess I am used to lower end carts that have a replaceable stylus. I did not think too much about it but it appears to be a good one maybe a couple hundred bucks is a good investment. I got a blue Ortofon to replace this and thought I was really moving up in the world. Sending it to a place in NJ today for an estimate.

Read up on the difference between moving magnet and moving coil cartridges.

Got it. The rebuild is almost as much as the original cost but I think I will go for it. It appears moving coil cartridges do not have a replaceable stylus.

Re: Adcom cartridge rebuild?
I have an Adcom XC-LTII that I bought in 1984. I quit using it when I broke the cantilever...and it's been in my "box of broken cartridges" ever since.
It's a high output moving coil meaning you can input it into a MM phono input and don't need a step-up transformer or high gain phono stage. The XC stands for cross coil meaning the coils are mounted on the cantilever at 45 degrees. My system has changed a lot since then, but I recall that I liked the cartridge.
