Super Rectifier For ST-120 Empty Super Rectifier For ST-120

    Hi All,

I came across to this super rectifier from Space Tech Lab in Canada:

    https://space-tech-lab.com/Accessories/Super_Rectifiers.php

    My questions are:

    1. Has anybody tried this super rectifier in their system?

    2. Is it even possible to use this on the ST-120 with single rectifier (mine is 2013 version built by Bob) without affecting the quad cap?

I asked questions to the seller (Space Tech Lab) and they said it’s possible with the use of the “full wave rectification” version (2x tubes with one rectifier socket connecter).

I just want to have some advise from here the forum before I pull the trigger.

    Thanks in advance

I’ve looked at this, there is a big thread touting its virtues on the decware forums.

If it can handle the current, it just offloads rectification to exotic triodes. It either wires grid to plate or the cathode (I can’t recall) to make the diode. Some older amps I’ve seen have an 845 based rectifiers.

It’s a cool way to roll rectifiers i guess. The interior shots that I saw did not impress me. Ie it didn’t look very robust build quality wise. The choke version adds a choke after “super” rectification, which might smooth dc, drop your b+, or mess with your power supply.

I have no experience with this. I’d suggest taking a look at the decware forums. Hifi cave YouTube has a bunch of videos. Mostly on single ended amps. My main concern would be current handling of the “rectifiers”. Good luck and will be interested to see if anyone else has experience.

Not too hard to build one for that matter.

I have seen and played with many rectifier designs. They look cool. I don't believe that they would improve the sound much, it at all and for that price without more build details, I am even more skeptical. Replacing the single rectifier tube in a ST-120 with dual rectifiers would likely work just as well for a lot less cost. I found a photo of the the inside wiring of one of those and I was even less impressed. My test builds look much better than that. Save your money for proven improvements like dual tube rectifier mods.
