12X4 Rectifier Tube Empty 12X4 Rectifier Tube

Post by Sprags Tue May 07, 2013 5:32 pm

My preamp uses a 12X4 rectifier tube. The brand name is illegible. Can anyone tell me if there are alternatives to this tube? Such as an ECC82 is an alternative tube to a 12AU7.

Also...can anyone tell me a source for Weber WZ68 Copper Cap Rectifier?

    Thanks...Blake

This should get you started on the 12X4 ...

Doesn't look like you have a lot of options unless you go to an older version. Not necessarily a bad thing. Rumor has it the 14Y4 is a cheaper option, but you'd need to change the socket.

Here's where you get the copper caps ...

Thanks for the prompt reply. I've heard good things about the GE 12X4 so I'll give that one a try.

As far as the Weber WZ68 I've heard good and bad things about it. I guess for $22 its not going to break the bank to try out. My amp is still only a few weeks old so I still have time before I start tube rolling.

there are no alternatives equal to the 12X4. They are cheap and plentiful, I use them in almost all of my preamps.

What's a good brand and year to look for in a 12X4 Rectifier tube?
